Event details

The Foundation Jazz Festivals & Events in collaboration with Compania de Administrare a Domeniului Bran are hosting the sixth edition of the festival Jazz at Bran Castle, scheduled from August 24th to August 26th, 2018, set, like the previous editions, in the inner courtyard of Bran Castle and in Râșnov Evangelical Church.

This year’s edition of the festival intends, amongst other, to rejoin some artists who did not perform together lately, such as: Stefano Bollani, acclaimed as the best Italian piano player of the last years and Enrico Rava, a fabulous musician, always eager to perform various musical projects, his trumpet being full of meaning over the time.

In the first evening, the festival will host few outstanding concerts, performed by the excellent Cuban piano player Omar Sosa and the versatile Kora player, Seckou Keita, from Senegal, seconded by Gustavo Ovalles, a percussionist from Venezuela. The Trio will present their latest recording, “Transparent Water”, an album which perfectly match the sound of various instruments from Africa and South America with the piano’s one.  In the subsequent musical act,

Swedish bass player Lars Danielsson together with British guitar player, John Parricelli, Swedish percussionist Magnus Öström and the pianist Grégory Privat, from Martinique, will present “Liberetto III” (ACT 9840-2), a very melodic and wide-ranging album.

The festival aims to bring to the attention of Romanian jazz fans some unusual musical performances, a coming together of classical music and jazz, such as the concert of Trio Medieval, a Septentrional vocal and instrumental Norwegian trio, celebrating their seventh album at ECM label,“ Rimur”, a recording released together with the talented Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, making his debut at Jazz at Bran Castle. In the same context is the concert of Rabih Abou-Khalil Trio, in which the art of Rabih Abou-Khalil, a Lebanese oud virtuoso, is combined with a refined percussion technique of the American drummer Jarrod Cagwin and the lyricism of the Italian accordionist Luciano Biondini into an original fusion, called “world-jazz”. The Trio will promote their latest recording “ The Flood and the Fate of Fish”, released in February 2018.

One of best friends of the festival, the Italian bandeonist Daniele Di Bonaventura, returns to present edition together with Vertere String Quartet, to perform a classic project, maybe his  most melodious recording “Sine Nomine”. In line with these coming backs, the Norwegian trumpeter Nils Peter Molvaer will perform, this time in a trio, the latest recording of his quartet, “Buoyancy”.

In the baroque ambiance of the Evangelical Church of Râșnov, Trio Medieval and Arve Henriksen will make new the sounds of profane music in the sacred interior of the church.

The most visited touristic venue of Romania, Bran Castle, will become again the Amphitryon of the international jazz.

The concerts shall take place from Friday to Sunday, starting at 7 p.m., hosted in the inner courtyard of Bran Castle and Saturday, at 12:00 a.m., in Râșnov Evangelical Church.
