Jazz at Bran Castle 2016
Jazz @ Bran Castle • 4th edition
August 26th – August 28th 2016
The Foundation Jazz Festivals & Events in collaboration with Compania de Administrare a Domeniului Bran are hosting the forth edition of the festival Jazz at Bran Castle, scheduled from August 26th to August 28th, 2016 set, like the previsous editions, in the inner courtyard of Bran Castle and in Râșnov Evangelical Church.
This year’s edition of the festival tries, one more time, to reunite artists that have not performed before in Romania or within the festival or, as the case may be, in their current performing structure, such as: Italian pianist Giovanni Ceccarelli, who will perform solo and also together with the Italian bandeonist Daniele di Bonaventura as an original duo, church organ and bandoneon; Giovanni Guidi Trio, the introspective Italian pianist being supported by the American double bassist Thomas Morgan and the Portuguese drummer João Lobo. In the same context is Phronesis, a Danish-British- Norwegian trio, holder of several jazz awards not long ago, which returns to Romania to promote their recent album “Parallax”, released this April; the notorious and unconventional German trumpeter Markus Stockhausen with “Quadrivium” project, having its Romanian first performance, togather with German cellist Jörg Brinkmann, Italian pianist and organist Angelo Comisso and German drummer Christian Thomé and Jacob Young Trio, the Norwegian quitarist, with a Romanian opening night, being supported by Italian drummer Paolo Vinaccia, a devoted friend of the festival, and Norwegian sax player Bendik Hofseth.
A continuing presence of Romanian jazz festivals during the last years, the piano virtuoso from Italy, Stefano Battaglia, will join the festival with two different projects: with his last trio, performing the ECM album “In The Morning” and his last duet with German clarinet player Ulrich Drechsler, promoting their last album “Little Peace Lullaby” to be released this May.
We also have the pleasure to bring back the Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson, this time alongside with double bassist Palle Danielsson and drummer Jon Christensen – two remarkable representatives of Norwegian jazz scene- the ECM artists performing for the first time together. From the same Norwegian jazz areal come back Helge Lien Trio, a band who waited a very long time a storm’s end few years ago in Garana to enchant a limited public, blessed with a particular concert which worth in full their remain for the nature’s rest.
In the baroque ambiance of the Evangelical Church of Râșnov, Daniele di Bonaventura, Giovanni Ceccarelli, Markus Stockhausen, Jörg Brinkmann and Angelo Comisso will make new the sounds of profane music in the sacred interior of the church.
The most visited touristic venue of Romania, Bran Castle, will become again the amphitryon of the international jazz.
The concerts shall take place from Friday to Sunday, in the already known rhythm of three sets per evening, at 7 p.m., hosted in the inner courtyard of Bran Castle and Saturday, at 12:00, respectively Sanday, at 13:30, in Râșnov Evangelical Church.
