Alessandro Safina is an internationally acclaimed Italian tenor, celebrated for his unique voice and for creating a distinctive style that blends opera with pop, soul, and musical theatre – a style he famously coined as “rock opera”.
Born in Siena, Safina discovered his passion for music at an early age, inspired by his opera-loving parents. At just 17, he was admitted to the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, and in 1989 he won First Prize at the prestigious Katia Ricciarelli International Singing Competition, marking the beginning of a brilliant career with leading roles in such operas as La Bohème, The Barber of Seville, The Elixir of Love, Rusalka, and Eugene Onegin.
Safina gained worldwide recognition for his ability to bring opera closer to mainstream audiences by crossing musical boundaries. His international breakthrough came with the single “Luna”, which topped the Dutch charts for 14 weeks, earning his album Insieme a Te four Platinum Records and releases in over 30 countries. He has shared the stage and studio with legendary artists such as Sarah Brightman, Elton John, Ewan McGregor, Barbara Hendricks, Sumi Jo, Rod Stewart, and Andrea Bocelli.
His music has been featured in major films and soundtracks, most notably Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!, where he performed “Your Song” alongside Ewan McGregor, and the Brazilian telenovela O Clone, where “Luna” became an international hit. He has performed at the Royal Variety Show for Queen Elizabeth II, at the San Remo Festival, and in globally broadcast concerts including PBS’s Great Performances.
With his unmistakable voice, natural charm, and bold artistic vision, Alessandro Safina remains one of today’s most beloved tenors – an artist who has successfully brought the grandeur of opera closer to millions of listeners worldwide.
