Bon Jovi is an American rock band from Sayreville, New Jersey. Formed in 1983, the band consists of lead singer Jon Bon Jovi (John Francis Bongiovi, Jr.), guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres. The band members have remained largely the same over time, except for the departure of Alec John Such in 1994. He was unofficially replaced by Hugh McDonald, who later also left the band.
In 1984, Bon Jovi debuted with the song "Runaway", which helped them gain recognition. In 1984 and 1985, Bon Jovi released two albums that were well received by the public. However, the band achieved major success with the following albums: Slippery When Wet (1986) and New Jersey (1988). The success of these albums brought the band worldwide recognition.
In 1990, the band took a break after the New Jersey tour, during which both Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora focused on their solo careers. In 1992, the band achieved double platinum status with Keep the Faith and many other albums thereafter. The hit "It’s My Life", released in 2000, became especially popular among younger audiences.
The band is known for incorporating various musical styles, including pop and country, as heard on the album Lost Highway (2007). A new album, The Circle, was released on November 10, 2009, in the United States. In 2013, they returned with their latest album, What About Now.
Over the years, Bon Jovi has released twelve studio albums, three compilation albums, one live album, and has sold 130 million records worldwide. They have performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans.
