Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters is an American rock band formed in Seattle in 1994. The band was founded by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl as a one-man project following the death of Kurt Cobain and the subsequent breakup of Nirvana. The band’s name comes from UFOs and various aerial phenomena reported by Allied aircraft pilots during World War II, collectively referred to as “foo fighters.” Before the release of Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut album in 1995, which featured Grohl as the sole official member, he recruited bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith, both former members of Sunny Day Real Estate, as well as former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear to complete the lineup. A major blow for the band was the sudden death of Taylor Hawkins in 2022, when he was found dead in his hotel room in Bogotá, Colombia. The cause of death was reported as an accidental overdose. His passing did not lead to the band’s breakup; although Hawkins was an important member, they managed to regroup, and Josh Freese joined a few months later as an official member, with a new album released in 2023.
