Hugh Laurie, full name James Hugh Calum Laurie, is an English actor, comedian, writer, and musician.
He was born on June 11, 1959, in Oxford, United Kingdom. A versatile personality, Laurie initially gained public attention through his performances in the artistic duo “Fry and Laurie” and later as an actor in the British television series Blackadder.
Musically, Laurie began taking lessons in childhood. At the age of six, he started piano lessons and later learned guitar, drums, harmonica, and saxophone. He has often showcased his musical talent in various TV series in which he appeared. Currently, Hugh Laurie is the vocalist and keyboardist of a rock band called Band from TV, which primarily performs for charity.
In 2010, Laurie was a guest of honor for Meat Loaf at the release of the album Hang Cool Teddy Bear, performing the song “If I Can’t Have You” on piano. In several episodes of the TV series House, he played various musical instruments as required by his character.
