Recognized as the pioneering initiators of the trip-hop style and as one of the most innovative and influential bands of their generation, MASSIVE ATTACK have released, over their 20-year career, 5 studio albums, 2 EPs, 16 singles, a compilation, and 2 soundtracks, selling more than 10 million copies worldwide.
Over the years, the band has collaborated with major names in the music industry, including Madonna, David Bowie, Tracey Thorn, Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Sinead O’Connor, Damon Albarn (Blur), Horace Andy, Tricky, Shara Nelson, Neneh Cherry, and Martina Topley-Bird.
The duo, composed of Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall (founding members of the group), will present their new album, Heligoland, for the first time in Bucharest. The album was released in February after nearly a 7-year hiatus following their previous studio album, 100th Window.
The music created by MASSIVE ATTACK can best be described as a long night of soul music, blending funk with dub, imbued with the edgy attitude that gave rise to punk in the mid-1970s. They have gathered all the cool sounds, reprocessed and crafted them into a new sound, without being virtuosos on any particular instrument, working instead with the immense sound bank they have built over time.
The combination of their hypnotic music, explosive live shows, and cinematic visuals, which incorporate messages referencing political persecution and civil rights, always manages to captivate an audience eager for new and powerful experiences.
