Metallica was established in Los Angeles in 1981. The trash metal quartet sold over 110 million albums, won nine Grammys and managed to build one of the most involved and loyal fan communities in the world.
Metallica consists of James Hetfield with his unmistakable voice on the microphone, Lars Ulrich and his bombastic drums and Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujilo on guitar and bass. They are known for their high-energy live performances that include an inimitable atmosphere with amazing metal riffs and melodic rock anthems.
Metallica has released nine studio albums and six EPs but managed to remain fresh and reinvented itself several times. Track such as "EnterSandman"and "NothingElse Matters" are now pillar stones of rock music. A documentary that premiered in 2005 called "Some Kind of Monster" was a huge hit and it shows the group in an unusually personal and vulnerable light.
In September 2012 they appeared on the tribute album Re-Machined -aTribute toDeep Purple's Machine Head" with the song "When a Blind ManCries". The band is currently in production of its tenth studio album, slated for a 2015 release.
