The biggest sporting event in Hungary’s history, the World Athletics Championships will be held from 19-27 August 2023, in Budapest. More than 2,000 athletes from over 200 countries will travel to Hungary's capital to do their very best at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 for nine days. With its breathtaking panorama and a brand-new purpose-built National Athletics Centre, Budapest provides the perfect backdrop for exciting competitions.
Highlights and big names on each of the 9 competition days
Every session of the World Championships in the Hungarian capital will be packed with ‘Must-See’ moments. Multiple World Champions will be crowned in each of the nine evening sessions and all five morning sessions will offer an exciting mix of events and athletes.

On the first evening, medals will be awarded in the women’s 10,000m, the 4x400m mixed relay as well as in the men's shot put, potentially featuring US’s world record holder Ryan Crouser.
On 20 August, the men’s best long-distance runner will be on the track, among them world record holder Joshuar Cheptegei of Uganda. The fastest men in the world also determine their champion on this evening in the 100m final.
Grant Holloway, one of the Hungarian fans' favorite foreign athletes, should be in the running for gold in the 110m hurdles on Monday evening. Jamaica’s golden generation, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shericka Jackson could clash in the women's 100m final.
The evening session of 22 August will hold the men’s high jump and the women’s discus throw final, probably headed by multiple global gold medalist Sandra Perkovic.
With Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Karsten Warholm potentially featuring in the 1500m and 400m hurdles finals, respectively, it could be all about the Norwegian superstars on Wednesday evening.
On 24 August the women's long jump final with Ivana Vuleta, Malaika Mihambo, Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk and Yulimar Rojas could deliver a breathtaking show.
The decathlon begins on Friday - Olympic champion Damian Warner, world record-holder Kevin Mayer and the young Simon Ehammer could battle for gold.
One of the highlights of the World Championships will be the men’s pole vault final on Saturday, 26 August. Mondo Duplantis would be eyeing more history with another world record attempt but first he would have to secure the win against a strong field.
Get ready for a finals-filled last session on Sunday. Johannes Vetter will be hard to beat in the men’s javelin final.
Tickets available from 3,000 HUF
Tickets are available for a total of 14 sessions and range from 3,000 HUF to 22,900 HUF depending on the session and the price category.
Packages are available for those who don’t want to miss a single golden moment or who want to follow all medal decisions at the opening or final weekend.
In addition to the stadium competitions, a further six road races will be held outside the stadium in the beautiful city centre of Budapest. The marathon and race walking competitions, through the streets of the city, will be free of charge.
Discounts and special ticket types
The following discounts are available as session tickets and packages from ticket categories 1 to 4:
· Minors under 4, sitting in a parent’s lap, do not have a ticket and are welcome free of charge.
· Juniors and students between age 4-17 and seniors over 65 qualify for a discount of 25%.
· Families consisting of two adults and two kids (between 4-17) qualify for a discount of 25%. Any additional kids pay 50% of the regular price.
· Guests in wheelchairs are welcome free of charge, subject to prior registration with the ticketing operator. They must be accompanied at all times while in the venue. The accompanying person will need to purchase a ticket next to the guest in wheelchair. These tickets have been priced at the lowest category.
